Updated Tuesday 29 September 2026 at 11:37 BST. The disruption caused by a trackside fire between Gatwick Airport and Purley has ended, National Rail confirms.
National Rail marked the incident cleared at 11:16 and says services are running as scheduled. Southern’s live page no longer lists the fire disruption.
Earlier this morning, Southern warned of cancellations, alterations and delays after the fire. Its 10:41 update said the lines had reopened, with disruption then expected until 11:45. That estimate has been superseded by the clearance notice.
Eastbourne passengers should still check their journey: the separate temporary weekday Eastbourne–London timetable remains in place through Friday 9 October, with the normal timetable expected from Monday 12 October.
