Privacy policy

This notice explains what information Eastbourne.info and the services that support it may process when you use the website.

Information collected automatically

The web host and security services may record technical information such as your IP address, browser and device information, referring page, pages visited and the time of access. This is used to deliver and secure the website, diagnose problems and understand how the service is being used.

Jetpack Stats

We use Jetpack Stats, provided by Automattic, to understand website traffic and performance. When you visit, Automattic may process your IP address, browser and device information, the page visited, referring page, time of access, browser language, approximate country and a WordPress.com identifier if you are signed in. It can also record events such as page views, hosted-video plays and outbound-link clicks.

Eastbourne.info receives statistical reports and does not receive an IP address or WordPress.com identity attached to a particular visit. Automattic says identifiable Stats logs are retained for 28 days; aggregated statistics may remain available for longer. Read the Jetpack Stats privacy information and Automattic’s notice for visitors to users’ sites.

Cookies and similar technologies

WordPress and active site services may use cookies for essential functionality, security and remembering preferences. Signed-in administrators may receive additional WordPress cookies. Jetpack Stats uses a browser-loaded tracking pixel, and Automattic says Site Stats may also use cookies to count unique visitors and produce geographic totals. You can restrict or delete cookies through your browser settings, although some site features may then work differently. See Automattic’s Cookie Policy.

Newsletter subscriptions

If you subscribe to the newsletter, Jetpack Newsletter uses your email address and subscription details to confirm and manage the subscription and to send new-post emails. At signup, Automattic also receives technical request information, including your IP address, request headers and page address, for spam and abuse prevention. Eastbourne.info may see your subscription status and date, country and engagement information such as opens and clicks.

Confirming a Jetpack subscription may create or connect a WordPress.com account. You can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter email, manage subscriptions through WordPress.com, or ask us to remove your subscription through the Contact & Corrections page. Read more about Jetpack Newsletter.

Messages and corrections

If you email hello@eastbourne.info, the information in your message and the technical details used to deliver it will be processed so that we can review and respond. Please do not send sensitive personal information.

Embedded content and external links

Articles may link to or embed content from other websites. Those services may collect data, use cookies or track interaction according to their own privacy policies. Eastbourne.info is not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites.

Service providers and international processing

Information may be processed by service providers needed to host, secure, maintain, send newsletters and measure the website. It is not sold as a mailing list. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to protect the website and its users.

Automattic provides Jetpack services and processes some information on our behalf. It may also process information under its own privacy policy when you use a WordPress.com account or another Automattic service directly. Automattic says information may be processed outside the UK or EEA and that it uses approved contractual safeguards where required. See Automattic’s Privacy Policy.

How long information is kept

Retention depends on the type of information and the service involved. Hosting and security logs and messages are kept only for as long as reasonably needed for their purpose, security or legal obligations. Jetpack’s identifiable Stats-log period is described above; aggregated reporting may remain available longer. Newsletter information is kept while a subscription is active and as needed to operate or record the subscription.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask what personal information is held about you, request correction or deletion, or object to certain processing. You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. Use the Contact & Corrections page for the current contact route. Requests relating to a separate WordPress.com account may need to be made directly to Automattic.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the site, its services or relevant requirements change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
