The day itself

An opening procession is officially launched by the Mayor of Eastbourne around midday, before the main parade — the centrepiece of the day — sets off at 2pm from Fisherman’s Green and travels nearly a mile along the seafront to the Wish Tower Slopes. Expect colourful floats, live music, samba and dance groups, dazzling costumes and plenty of noise and sparkle. Afterwards, the celebration rolls on with a street party at Victoria Place (the seafront end of Terminus Road) from around 4:30pm, with DJs, carnival music and a lively community atmosphere. A popular public vote lets spectators pick their favourite parade entry for the carnival awards.
Local tip: The parade route runs the length of the western seafront, so you don’t need to crowd the start — find a spot anywhere along the prom towards the Wish Tower and you’ll get a great view as the procession passes.
Where to watch
The whole seafront between Fisherman’s Green and the Wish Tower makes a fine vantage point, and it’s completely free. The promenade near the bandstand and along the Western Lawns tends to be a lively, popular stretch, with the finish at the Wish Tower Slopes a natural gathering point. Arrive in good time on the day, as the seafront gets busy and nearby parking fills up quickly — walking, cycling or taking the bus into the centre is often the easiest approach. Bring something to sit on, sun cream and a camera; it’s a wonderfully photogenic event.
