Updated 6 October 2026 at 19:59 BST. National Rail has confirmed that disruption caused by the earlier emergency response between Eastbourne and Polegate has ended. Its incident notice was marked cleared at 19:15 BST.
The resolution supersedes the earlier estimate of disruption continuing until 22:30. The incident affected Southern journeys through Eastbourne towards Lewes, Brighton and London.
Separate planned works still apply tonight: from about 22:00 until the end of service, replacement buses are scheduled between Haywards Heath and Lewes, Polegate and Eastbourne. Check Southern’s live travel advice before setting off.
