South East Water says most exemptions from its Sussex hosepipe restrictions ended at 00:01 on Friday 9 October 2026. Only exemptions for health, safety or welfare now remain.

The change, announced on 2 October, affects customers in the company’s Sussex supply area, including its Eastbourne customers. It does not apply automatically to customers of other water suppliers. The existing restrictions remain in force.

Anyone previously relying on an exemption should check the supplier’s updated guidance and activity-by-activity table before using a hosepipe.

Separate application affecting businesses

The company also says it has applied for a Non-Essential Use Ban affecting its Sussex wholesale supply area. This is an application, not confirmation that such a ban has started. South East Water says it would implement it only if the drought situation worsens.
