Eastbourne Pier was added to Eastbourne Borough Council’s list of Assets of Community Value on 21 September 2026, the council’s published register confirms.

The entry, reference EBCACV09, identifies the landmark at Grand Parade, Eastbourne, BN21 3EL. Eastbourne.info checked the council’s register on 27 September.

What the status means

Under the council’s Community Right to Bid guidance, a proposed qualifying sale can give eligible community interest groups an opportunity to prepare a bid and raise funds. An initial six-week period allows a group to express interest; if that happens, the sale-delay period can extend to six months in total. Exemptions apply.

The listing does not itself force the owner to sell, transfer the pier to the council or give a community group first refusal. The council says an owner is not required to accept a community bid and can choose the buyer and price once the applicable waiting period ends.

Listing is not a sale announcement

The pier’s register entry records “N/A” in the fields for notification of a relevant disposal and the sale-delay periods. The entry therefore confirms the community-asset listing; it is not evidence that a sale process has been announced.

The council also says an Asset of Community Value designation is taken into account when planning decisions relating to the property are made.
