Updated 12.30am Friday 4 September 2026: National Rail says trains are now running normally between Purley/Redhill and Gatwick Airport after the earlier faulty train. The incident was cleared at 12.30am.
Unplanned disruption has ended
The fault had disrupted the Gatwick corridor used by Eastbourne–London Victoria services. All lines reopened late on Thursday, and National Rail continued to warn of residual cancellations, revisions and delays while the timetable recovered.
National Rail’s final update says trains are running normally. Passengers no longer need to allow extra time because of this incident, though they should still check live departure information before travelling.
Separate overnight engineering work
The clearance applies to the unplanned Gatwick fault. Separate planned engineering work is taking place between Lewes and Eastbourne in the early hours of Friday, with buses replacing trains from approximately 12.30am to 3am. Journey times may be longer.
