Few things are more quietly essential than knowing which bin goes out when. In Eastbourne, waste and recycling collections are run under the Environment First service on behalf of the borough council. Here’s a plain-English guide to finding your collection day, what goes in which bin, garden waste, and using the tip.

Service: Environment First  |  Check your day: by postcode online  |  Garden waste: paid subscription  |  Tip: book before you go

Finding your collection day

\n

Use Environment First’s official address lookup to find your collection calendar. Its site lists Eastbourne refuse, recycling and food-waste calendars for 2026. Enter the requested address details rather than copying a neighbour’s or a Lewes-district calendar.

For holiday changes or missed collections, start with that calendar and the responsible service’s current instructions. We have not verified a single collection day or presentation deadline that applies to every Eastbourne address.

\n

What goes in which bin

\n

Use the current local collection guidance, not a generic “all plastics” rule. Home collections and recycling-site acceptance are different services. The county’s Eastbourne recycling-site page distinguishes plastic bottles from other packaging and hard-plastic items; do not assume every plastic item belongs in the same stream.

Follow Environment First’s current collection guidance and address-specific calendar for your home bins. Do not rely on the earlier guide’s broad recycling list or its promise about when a food caddy would arrive.

Garden waste

\n

Environment First links to the council’s garden-waste subscription service and publishes 2026–27 garden-waste calendars. Use the official “Sign-up for a Garden Waste collection” link for Eastbourne terms and the current charge.

Price review needed: we have removed the earlier approximate £89 price and unverified renewal/share-a-bin rules. A current Eastbourne-specific price and conditions were not directly verified in this check; do not assume Lewes district’s fee is the same.

The tip: Eastbourne household waste recycling site

\n

The county-run site is on St Philip’s Avenue, Eastbourne, BN22 8NB. Book ahead through the official booking service; this applies to drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. Slots can be booked for the same day or up to two weeks ahead, subject to availability.

Opening hours checked 19 October: Monday–Thursday 08:30–16:00, Friday 08:30–15:30, Saturday–Sunday 08:00–12:00. Check the site’s current page for exceptions, accepted materials, charges and vehicle restrictions before loading up. Trade waste is not accepted.

\n

Missed bins, new bins and extra help

\n

Environment First provides the council’s routes for reporting a missed collection, requesting containers and contacting the service. Read the reporting window and eligibility in the form rather than assuming every missed collection qualifies for a return visit.

If you need help presenting bins, ask the council about assisted collection and its eligibility. We have not verified all conditions or charges and no longer promise that it is available in every circumstance.

Who is responsible?

Use Environment First/council routes for home collections, missed bins and containers. Use East Sussex County Council for recycling-site bookings and acceptance rules. These services have different conditions.

Targeted review, 19 October 2026: added official collection/booking links and site hours; removed an unverified garden-waste price, blanket recycling claims and caddy-arrival promises. Collection-specific rules still need direct council verification. Next review due 26 October 2026. Report a correction.
