Car parks in the town centre

The Beacon publishes its own tariffs, entry route and restrictions. Enter from Longstone Road; advertised headroom is 1.8m. It uses a ticketless registration-based system with card/contactless machines. Standard prices checked 19 October include £1.80 for one hour and £3.40 for two; AutoPay rates differ. The operator says no vehicles may be left overnight and there are no Blue Badge parking concessions. Check the complete official tariff and access information before travelling.

For alternatives, the council’s Visit Eastbourne parking directory lists the station on Commercial Road for long stays, the Enterprise Centre for short stays, and other public car parks. Each site has its own payment, opening and concession rules; a town-centre location is not a guarantee of a space or of suitable access.

Parking at the seafront and on the Downs

Correction: seafront parking is not uniformly limited to a few hours. The county’s tariff includes seafront bays with a maximum stay of 23 hours 55 minutes; other bays and streets differ. Read the official map, tariff and the sign at your chosen bay.

Visit Eastbourne’s downland parking entry lists Beachy Head, Warren Hill and Butts Brow with daily charging 08:00–20:00 and a ten-hour maximum stay. We have removed the earlier unverified claim that a Leisure Card automatically gives residents free parking. Check the current permit/payment terms; do not rely on an old concession.

On-street parking and the zones

The county lists town-centre paid controls generally 08:00–18:00 Monday–Saturday and seafront controls 08:00–18:00 daily, with location exceptions. Permit-only, disabled and taxi bays can operate beyond those hours. Signs, zone maps and current tariffs determine where you may park.

The county’s RingGo guidance lists a 20p convenience charge and optional text-message costs. Remote extension is allowed only up to the bay’s maximum stay; it does not override a no-return rule. Match the location code and registration carefully. Card/coin machines remain available where advertised.

For concessions, use the county’s Blue Badge parking rules and the individual car-park operator’s terms. A badge is not a universal free-parking pass.

Tips and the busiest days

Parking gets very tight during big events — especially Airbourne in August and the tennis in late June — when the seafront fills quickly and event zones come into force. On those days it’s worth arriving early, pre-booking a space, or leaving the car behind altogether: the station is right in the centre, so arriving by train is often the easiest option of all.
